[return to Table of Contents] Artificial Surfing Reefs Artificial Surfing Reefs (ASRs) are being considered for recreational
enhancement and also for erosion control. In 2000 the Surfrider Foundation
constructed an artificial reef in El Segundo, CA as mitigation for
a lost surfing resource. Because it has not improved surf quality
and has begun to deteriorate, we are planning to remove the reef in
the fall of 2008. You can learn more about this ASR below.FAQ on removal of the ASR in El Segundo, CA Reef Removal Project Description Reef Monitoring Summary (1.9 MB .pdf file) Early History of Pratteās Reef (published in 1998) Surfrider Foundation Policy on Artificial Surfing Reefs |
